I recently found myself in a room full of strangers, making small talk for a few hours. We were all starting various courses in January and the academy thought it would be a good idea to supply a few drinks and let us mingle.
I love these events. Everyone is interested in meeting each other, and it gives you a great opportunity to practice your social skills. You also get to learn a lot of interesting tidbits about people.

Ah the first post of a new blog.
I should be honest, this isn’t technically my first post. Many years ago I had a blog on this site when I was just starting out. I think it reached three or four posts between finishing university and being hired for my first job – where seven years later I still work. I just became too busy to continue on. The reality was that this wasn’t a priority for me. The job seemed overwhelming at the time, the commute was a nightmare, and the last thing I wanted to do when I finally got home was to write about the profession. Continue reading “First of Many”
